Organic Electronics and Photonics Group: Facilities

Available equipment in the group laboratory

Optical sources and special accessories

  • Continuous wave lasers: He-Ne, Ar, and semiconductor laser diodes.
  • Pulsed Laser Nd-YAG (2).
  • Raman cell: Cell designed to change the wavelength of laser pulses.
  • Xenon and Mercury lamps.
  • Lenses, mirrors and polarizers for using with high energy radiations.
  • Power and energy detectors. 

Spectrophotometers

  • UV-VIS-NIR dual beam spectrophotometer.
  • Fluorimeter to obtain fluorescence spectra of solutions and thin films.
  • Integrating sphere: Fluorimeter accessory for measuring quantum efficiency of solutions and thin films.
  • UV-VIS fiber spectrometers of middle and high resolution.

Other singular equipment

  • Holographic lithography setup. 
  • Oxygen ECR stream etching system to dry develop holographic nanostructures.
  • Spin coating system for organic thin film deposition.
  • Thermal evaporation system for thin film deposition.
  • Optical setup to obtain the refractive index and thickness of thin films by measuring polarized reflectances.
  • Optical system to measure film thickness by interferential microscopy. 
  • Optical setup to characterize waveguides by the dark-modes technique.
  • Setup to characterize the optical properties of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in planar waveguides.
  • Setup to characterize the optical properties of organic distributed feedback lasers (DFB).
  • Setup to characterize the refractive index sensing performance of DFB lasers.
  • Equipment to measure charge mobility by using the technique "time of flight (TOF)" at variable temperature (from room temperature to 120 ºC).
  • Equipment to measure conductivity and photoconductivity at variable temperature (from room temperature to 120 ºC).

General equipment

  • Optical laboratory (three rooms equipped with optical tables, optical benches, and optical elements (lenses, prisms, mirrors, filters,etc.).
  • Chemistry laboratory (two rooms equipped with analytical balances, magnetic agitators, ultrasonic baths, ovens, etc). .
  • Clean room for spin-coating thin films.

Technical services of Universidad de Alicante

In addition to the above mentioned facilities, we are internal users of the research technical services and technical support of Universidad de Alicante. The most valuable services for this project in the area of scientific instruments are the following:

  • Thermal analysis Unit: Termogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and simultaneous techniques (TG-DTA, and TG-DSC).
  • Analysis Unit: Ionic chromatography, gas chromatography, high efficiency liquid chromatography, inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, high resolution mass spectrometry, and low resolution mass spectrometry.
  • Microscopy Unit: Confocal microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force and tunnel effect microscopy.
  • Single crystal X-ray and vibrational and optical spectroscopies Unit: Single crystal X-ray diffraction, circular dichroism, Raman spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and VIS-UV spectroscopy. - X-ray Unit: Elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray micro-fluorescence.
  • Magnetic resonance Unit: Nuclear magnetic resonance in liquid and solid state, and electron spin resonance
  • Technical support: Laboratories of electronics and scientific photography, and ateliers of glass blowing and mechanics.
